Frequently asked questions

Can pelvic health physiotherapy help after prostate surgery?

Yes. Pelvic floor muscle training is recommended both before and after prostate surgery to support continence and sexual function recovery. A structured, individualised programme can significantly improve strength, coordination and confidence during recovery.

What does the assessment involve?

Your initial appointment includes a detailed discussion of symptoms, full history and goals. Assessment may involve evaluation of pelvic floor muscle function, breathing patterns, abdominal function and movement mechanics. An internal anorectal examination may be recommended for pelvic floor assessment but is always explained fully and performed only with your informed consent.

Is pelvic health physiotherapy only for women?

No. Men also have a pelvic floor, and it plays a vital role in bladder and bowel control, sexual function and support to the back and pelvis. Pelvic health physiotherapy is an effective treatment option for a range of bladder, bowel and pelvic pain concerns.
